Bill gives ethics commission collections power

The Commission on Ethics would be able to put liens on property as part of the effort to collect fines under legislation filed late last week in the House. The bill (HB 285) by Rep. Charles McBurney, R-Jacksonville, is expected to be one of several ethics measures pursued in both chambers this year as a priority of legislative leaders. The bill also prohibits voting by appointed state officials, or county, municipal or other local public officers on anything that would give them a personal private gain or loss.
