Rouson running for Democratic leader

Rep. Darryl Rouson, D-St. Petersburg, announced Monday that he would run for leader of the state’s Democratic caucus in two years. Rouson released a two-sentence letter dated Oct. 11, technically declaring his candidacy for House speaker in 2014-16, Monday afternoon. Unless Democrats take the House majority in this fall’s election or in November 2014, the party’s choice for the speakership will instead become the minority leader in the House. Rep. Chris Dorworth, R-Lake Mary, is expected to be the GOP’s candidate for House speaker for the 2014-16 term. Rouson is unopposed in his bid for re-election this year.
